Paradise’s hybrid graphics cards went beyond IBM compatibility by adding support for the Plantronics Colorplus standard. While remaining compatible with ordinary MDA and CGA software, the extra RAM allowed 320×200 in 16 colours or 640×200 in 4 colours - an improvement over IBM CGA’s 4-colour limit. Very little commercial software took advantage of these modes, making them something of a historical curiosity, but modern projects such as Planet X3, FastDoom and updated Sierra SCI drivers have revived interest in this forgotten branch of PC graphics history.
