The Oak OTIVGA 3716 was designed for compatibility rather than speed. By providing both analogue VGA and digital 9-pin MDA/CGA/EGA outputs, it could drive almost any IBM-compatible monitor from a single card. This made it a practical upgrade during the transition to VGA, allowing users to retain expensive existing displays while adopting the new graphics standard.
