The VG-7000 was designed for compatibility rather than speed. Its analogue VGA and digital TTL outputs allowed the same card to drive VGA, EGA, CGA and MDA displays, easing the transition to VGA without replacing an expensive monitor. Unlike graphics cards that introduced new display modes, the 3716 focused on preserving compatibility with existing hardware, reflecting the gradual evolution of the IBM PC ecosystem around 1990.
