The Acumos AVGA Machspeed is typical of the many independent Super VGA cards that appeared as VGA became the default PC graphics standard. With 512 KB of video RAM, it offered higher resolutions and colour depths than entry-level VGA cards without targeting the high-end accelerator market. Cards like this were bought because they were affordable, widely compatible and readily available, making them a common upgrade for 386 and 486 systems as Windows and graphical applications became increasingly popular.
